The Washington Heritage Museums is undertaking a reinterpretation of the historic garden and kitchen at 1200 Charles Street. With recent firebox restoration efforts completed, the kitchen is ready to welcome a wealth of hands-on learning at all levels, including:

  • The lives and stories of the enslaved persons who resided on Mary Washington's property.
  • 18th-century foodways and vegetable garden maintenance.
  • Types of cookware and utensils used by Virginians.
  • Seasonal food displays.
  • Interactive activities for learners of all ages.

Washington Heritage Museums is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-exempt. Please contact our Executive Director, Anne Darron at 540-373-5630 for any questions.
