Earn the Genealogy Merit Badge at the historic Mary Washington House!
Explore the Genealogy BSA Merit Badge Class for Scouts ages 11-17 at the final home of George Washington's mother!
The class will cover requirements 1, 4, 5, and 8 of the Genealogy Merit Badge. To earn the merit badge, the Scouts must provide evidence that they have completed the remaining requirements. If these are completed and documented before the class, the counselor will sign their Scouting America merit badge "Blue Card." If not, they will get a "partial," and the counselor can work with them later to complete the badge.
Scouts are expected to read the requirements and merit badge booklet before the class. These can be downloaded from: http://usscouts.org/mb/worksheets/Genealogy.pdf. Any other required printouts will be provided the day of the course. Scouts are also encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet.
The class will be led by Trip Wiggins, an Eagle Scout, a merit badge counselor for about a dozen merit badges, an Assistant Scoutmaster, and a Troop Eagle Scout coordinator. Mr. Wiggins has attended Philmont and the National Jamboree, among other scouting adventures.
Tickets are non-refundable and will not be available after 10/10/2025. No need to bring a confirmation, we will have an attendee list! Scout uniforms are not required, but troop t-shirts are encouraged.
