Earn the Genealogy Merit Badge at the historic Mary Washington House!
Genealogy BSA Merit Badge Class for Scouts ages 11-17 Learn about genealogy in the final home of George Washington's mother!
The class will cover requirements 1, 4, 5, and 8 of the
Genealogy Merit Badge. To earn the merit badge, the Scouts will
have to come with evidence that they have completed all of the other
requirements. If this is completed prior to the class, the counselor will sign
their BSA merit badge "Blue Card." If not, they will get a "partial" and the
counselor can work with them later to complete the badge.
Scouts are expected to read the requirements and merit badge booklet beforehand. These can be downloaded from: http://usscouts.org/mb/worksheets/Genealogy.pdf. Any other required printouts will be provided by the Mary Washington House. Scouts are also encouraged to bring their laptops!
The class will be led by Trip Wiggins, an Eagle Scout, a merit badge counselor for about a dozen merit badges, an Assistant Scoutmaster, a Troop Eagle Scout coordinator, and the Lead Advisor for a Crew going to Philmont Scout Ranch next summer mentoring Scouts on a 6-day, 50-mile backpacking trip in sunny New Mexico Rocky Mountains.
We will have a snow date of Saturday, January 28th at the same times if weather intervenes. Tickets are non-refundable, and will not be available after 11/19/23. No need to bring a confirmation, we will have an attendee list!
